Major Description

The Department of Korean Language Education was established in the 1st semester of 2008 with the aim of cultivating Korean language teachers who can effectively educate students. It is a teacher training department that thoroughly follows the Korean language teacher training curriculum required by the National Institute of Korean Language in which students can earn a level-2 Korean Language Teacher’s license upon graduation. Foreign students can earn the Korean Language Teacher’s license with TOPIK level 6.

The department has a team of experienced and well qualified faculty which leads the students in all areas of the Korean language including applied linguistics, Korean culture, Korean language education, etc. In addition, the university has a Korean language education center with various activities available such as Korean helpers, mock courses, class inspections, etc. Through close interactions with undergraduate international students, there is an advantage of being able to enhance the understanding of Korean language learners. The Department of Korean Language Education is committed to substantial education and research through the unity of faculty expertise and students’ field experience.

Educational Goal

The Department of Korean Language Education contributes to the globalization of the Korean language and culture by fostering Korean language teachers and experts equipped with theoretical and practical skills of Korean language education and knowledge in the Korean language and culture.

  • Complete all courses required for the acquisition of level 2 Korean Language Teacher’s License issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
  • Cultivate skills to creatively fulfill tasks related to the Korean language and teaching Korean.
  • Apply advanced foreign language education theories and second language learning theories to the field of Korean language education.
  • Explore new methods of teaching and study plans applicable to various learners worldwide.
  • Foster outstanding global human resources required for development in international society.
  • Enhance the university’s status through the talents with global competency going out into the world.

Employment and Career Path

Graduates of the Department of Korean Language Education take on the role of Korean language teachers in various educational sites but also as civilian diplomats who introduce Korea and spread the Korean culture worldwide.

Foreign students will be able to cultivate their Korean language communication skills, the basic qualification of Korean language education, and take on the role of mediators between their homeland and Korea.
